Leaky low key

Post by LarryS »

I was given a 1940s Pedler clarinet in grenadilla. Beautiful instrument but the low key doesn't sing well.
It would be nice to have it fully playable.

Hi Larry.

Watch the video (at the middle).
Maybe this is the key to your little problem ?

Thanks guys. As PO says there is no goosefoot on this clarinet but there is a screw touching the key that may need adjusting.

Exactly. As I can see the screw seems already unscrew enough but the cork looks a little bit thick. So if after unscrew you still have the problem you can try to reduce the cork with a strip of 000 sandpaper. Cut a strip of maximum 10cm long and 1/2 cm wide, put the strip between the screw and the cork sand side on the cork and pull it gently a few times until the E's pad closes perfectly.

I have noticed that when checking for leaks the F# key leaks. But if I touch the cup it stops leaking, even when I lift the finger off the cup
